Joint Stiffness Physiotherapy — Home Visits Across Delhi NCR

MPT & BPT qualified team · Home physiotherapy across Delhi NCR · Chiropractic care available

Joint stiffness is the loss of easy, full movement in a joint — the sense that it needs to be warmed up before it works properly. It can follow an injury or surgery, accompany arthritis, or build up gradually from inactivity and prolonged postures. Physiotherapy establishes whether the restriction sits in the joint capsule, the surrounding muscles or the soft tissue, then uses graded mobilization and movement to restore range.

What Is Joint Stiffness?

Joint stiffness is the loss of easy, full movement in a joint — the sense that it needs to be warmed up before it works properly. It can follow an injury or surgery, accompany arthritis, or build up gradually from inactivity and prolonged postures. Physiotherapy establishes whether the restriction sits in the joint capsule, the surrounding muscles or the soft tissue, then uses graded mobilization and movement to restore range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my joints stiff in the morning?
Fluid and tissue changes overnight make joints feel tight until movement warms them. Brief morning stiffness is common; stiffness lasting well over an hour can suggest an inflammatory cause worth investigating.
Can stiffness be reversed or is it permanent?
Most stiffness from inactivity, scar tissue or muscle shortening responds well to graded mobility work. Where a joint surface itself is significantly damaged, the aim shifts to maximising the available range and comfort.
Should I push into pain when stretching a stiff joint?
A mild stretching sensation is expected and useful. Sharp pain, or soreness that lingers for hours afterwards, means the load was too much — your physiotherapist will set the right level for each stage.
Does exercise make stiff joints worse?
Appropriately dosed movement almost always helps. Stiff joints deteriorate with inactivity, so a structured programme is a treatment rather than something to avoid.
